Hi Mark,

Actaully there is a LH6000 that was delivered by HP to my costumer on march,2003. The point is the server has two 128MB and two 512MB modules "Micron" that have no HP seal. This modules need to be replaced, but HP Brasil affirms there are no warranty. So, I just like knowing if everyone has already seen case like that...

Mark, thank you very much for the answers.

Hi Daniel,

I may be wrong, but I don't think Micron manufactures any RAM for HP. Are you asking because you would like to use 3d party RAM in a Netserver? Or, are you asking because you suspect you have a server in which non-HP memory is being used?

I wouldn't recommend using non-HP memory of any brand, in a Netserver. It's not a matter of IF it will cause issues, it is a matter of WHEN it will cause issues.

The easiste way to tell if you have any non-HP RAM in a server is to power down and unplug the server, pull out all of the RAM sticks and check them all for HP parts stickers. Another warning: If any of the labels say "LIKE HP..." or "HP compatible...", this means they are 3d party and eventually will give you problems.

Does that help?

Mark

Hi Daniel,

This sounds like an unusual memory configuration. I don't believe any NetServers ship with 2x512MB and 2x128MB. It sounds more likely that someone upgraded the system with additional RAM. If you can find the product number of the server, I can find out what the original configuration should be. Unfortunately there were 42 different product numbers for the LH 6000 and makes it hard to narrow down.

The product number will be located on the serial number sticker and will start with a "P" or a "D" followed by 4 numbers and then 1 or 2 more letters. (i.e. D9103A)
Hi Daniel,

I'm with Sean on this one. When you say the server was sent to you by HP, are you sure it came directly from HP? Is it possible you bought it from an "authorized" HP reseller? If so it is very possible (likely) that they have added some non-HP ram. I would contact them to find out why you were sent this non-HP ram. HP will never send out parts uncertified for use in their server, so if your server has some (and it sounds like you do)someone else has added it.

Mark
