LS4 and LH Plus

I've just acquired an LS4 Netserver in an auction - can anyone tell me the difference between the LS4 and the LH Plus ?

I'm planning to stick Linux on it and use it as an email server / firewall for my broadband connection

Hi Jon here is the HP link to the technical manuals for all the "L" range servers, you should be able to compare your data sheets for the two servers

There are many differences between the LS and the LH Plus NetServer. Here are the most notable:

LH Plus
256K Cache
Up to 2 CPU's
Max=4x128MB RAM
40MB/sec SCSI
Trident 9000i 512K Video

LS
512K-1MB Cache
Up to 4 CPU's
Max=24x32MB RAM (4 at a time)
20MB/sec SCSI
Cirrus Logic 5446 512K-1MB Video

Thanks for the replies - apparently the box I got for $40 is an LS4, so looks like it will do duty as a Linux fileserver quite nocely - it has 4 x 4.3Gb SCSI drives, and I have a couple of 18Gb ones to add to it....

That sounds like a great deal. The drives alone are worth more than that. If the info we gave you is helpful, maybe you can award us some points for our trouble.

Jon,

If you are running with a mylex card, which I would suspect for that old server, there is a 32gb limitation for the logical drive. It was very expensive at the time to reach an array of that size with 512mb to 2 gb hdds. If you have a classic netraid card in the server, that was not subject to the 32gb limit.
