Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated. On this particular Netserver I'm working on, all disks on left side of server ( Disk 0,1,2) all have a solid red LED next to them. All drives on right ( 3, 4, 5) are green.

I was told this could be a backplane issue yet the kicker is that the server is running and the customer says it appears to be operating just fine.

Anyone out there have any advice for a befuddled tech? =)

Thx much

Hello Chuck,

if this server has the managment software installed (either Instant TopTools or the Server Agents) or a TopTools Remote Control Card installed, you can retrieve the HardWare log (SEL = System Event Log) which might give us more information, not certain but it could.

If the Agents are installed you might also find some events in the Windows (assuming this server runs a Windows OS) Eventlog from the source 'HPEventLog'.

Do you happen to know in which raid configuration these 6 disks run ?
If they are connected to a Netraid array controller then it would be a good idea to start the Netraid Assistant Utility and go to the Log Viewer since that one could also report issues with the disk backplane via the backplane controller chip (SAFTE chip).

The above could help to decide if you do have to swap the disk backplane but since it shows red leds on 3 disks it's very likely.

HTH

Kris
