Netserver LD pro - Pentium Overdrive

I was wondering if the HP LD Pro processor board is capable of taking the Pentium Pro overdrive processor? I was thinking of replacing my dual 200Mhz processors with 2 333Mhz overdrive processors. Will the board and/or the VRM's support this? I know that someone posted something like this before, but I was wondering about the overdrive processor theory.

The board is designed to use 200MHz processors. I doubt that it will work.

Wolf,

There is no reason why it wouldn't work providing the chip is made to work in a pentium pro board at 200mhz, the whole idea of an Overdrive chip is to boost the speed beond what the system was designed to do.

However, Overdrive chips are usually quite pricy and more often than not you would be better off replacing the whole system with something faster, but hey if your getting them at a good price take a chance ..

Doesn't look like your system can take a higher processor. It is designed for 200MHz. It can take a second processor.

ok,

please allow me to clear this up.

An overdrive processor is a chip that would say for aguments sake take a board that can only do 200mhz and boost the speed by upto twice the speed or in this case 333mgz, the board it's self is still only outputting 200mhz but the chip ampliflys the power out put.

It does not change things like bus speed as that would cause instability in the system. basicly everything runs as per normal but the chip it's self is running at a faster clock speed, now for example I has a 486dx2 33 now with a overdrive chip in it it clocked at dx4 66 with the new ones the change is not as extreme but the concept is the same. for more info on this have a look at the intel web site the url will be at the bottom of this post.

I will also point out that intell is not producing these chips anymore, and after thinking about it may turn out to be a good investment just make sure that the chips are for the pentium pro .. normal pentium overdrive chips will not work.
