Bigger Drives - e60

Hi all,

We have the same issue as one or two other posters, in that we would dearly love to install some larger capacity storage in our e60.

The current standard spec system has 2 x 9Gig SCSI disks, which is not really enough. The official line from HP is that we may be able to fit an 8Gb IDE drive and 18.2Gb SCSI drives. Given that we would like to put a little more in the system and that these drives are quite expensive given their rarity, I would be interested to hear if anyone has successfully installed any larger drives of any or either kind.

We are about to flash the bios with the latest version and intend ultimately to run Suse Linux on the box.

How did the 120Gb IDE go on and the the larger SCSI?.

Many Thanks

Phil
Phil,

These are common issues when dealing with old Netservers. Since HP stopped documenting and testing for support for these machines as technology went forward, they refer to the "support configuration" company line. All this means is that they have tested such configurations.
As the other responders have noted, SCSI has no limitations for support, only issues with bus. Currently we have supplied customers with up to 181GB drives for their E60 and other Netserver. Also we have provided upgrades including SATA IDE drives and controllers to go beyond the limitations of the onboard SCSI and IDE controllers of the E60.
None of this effects your HP warranty, only HP will not deal with the subsystem if called on for service.
