topic LC3 - Replace Raid5 HD in Netservers

Bear with me... I'm new to all of this. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect when I replace a failed non-hot swap HD in a Raid5 configuration with a new non-hot swap HD (same size, also SCSI, different manufacturer). Will I have to change settings in SCSI Utility, NetRaid software, or somewhere else? Or will I get lucky and it'll take care of itself? It's a NetServer LC3, running 3 hard drives, a tape drive, and NT4.

hi
you just need to replace the hdd with a new one (same part number,(same speed, capacity, interface) not inportant the manufactor)
you have to set the exact id thant the hdd failed, you restart your system and you will found the hdd already in fail. Start rebuild and after half an hour the game is over.
bye
marino

So does the server automatically detect it needs to rebuild, or do I have to manually start it through an application, like NetRaid? Thanks!

Depends on if you have set the controller to automatically rebuild. HP's RAID controllers come pre-programed to auto rebuild. I will assume you have a standard NetRAID or one of SI series NetRAID controllers. You can verify a rebuild is taking place by pressing ctrl-m on boot when you see to do so on the screen in post. Going into objects then physical drive, look for one that is in a rebuild state. If none are, the one drive will still be marked as failed, just highlight it with the arrow keys, hit enter goto rebuild.
