Hi Dimitris,

You got excellent answer from John if your OS is Windows nt/2000/2003.
However, regardless of the OS you are ruinning you can do it in netraid express tools byty booting the server in to CTRL + M
1. Go to Object/Physical drive
2. Select the newly added drive (it should be shown as READY drive)
3. Press F4 to make it a hot spare
4. Reboot the server and that will be it

I hope this will help

Regards
Amha Kassa

I have set an array with 3 36Gb disks in RAID5 w/o hot spare disk. I have installed the OS but my manager, decided to add a hot spare disk. Do I have to re-install the OS, or can I just insert the disk and declare it as hot spare?

Thank you.

Dimitris:

You should be able to add the hot spare and assign it to your RAID as a Global Spare.
You will need to use the NetRAID Assistant.

Load the NetRAID Assistant and select your controller. This will expand your array. Next, select the new drive (make sure is says "Ready")
Then you just drag it into the global spare pool or click to assign it.

If you do not have the NetRAID Assistant loaded, click here to get it:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=51917&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=51915&prodTypeId=329290

Hope this helps! -john
