Hello,

the reason why the rebuild does not finish here on disk ID=3 is that another disk with ID=2 has a media error (as indicated by sense key in the raid.log file).

So basically this raid5 array can never be 100% rebuild because their is data missing in more then one part of the raid5 stripe.

Do a full backup the system first, this will do a full read on the whole data portion of the disks and as such you at least have a copy of the data.

If the backup is succesfull, this means that the bad stripe in the raid5 does not contain user data (or at least not in the data that you are taking a backup from) so can be in a paging file area on disk or such),then you are somewhat lucky.

Only solution here is to reinitialize the raid5 array (eventually also replace disk id=2) and restore the data.

regards, Kris
So the percent complete stops moving? Or the system has stop responding?
Could be bad data or another bad drive sector on the other members of the array.
Definately backup what you have, you may need to restore to a new configuration

Simone,

what model of Netraid controller fo you have ?

- 1M or 2M ? and what F/W does it run ?
- can you supply the raid.log file which is
a file located normally in c:\Program Files\Netriad|Client if you use Windows.

If this file is not available, pls install the Netraid Assistant utility which can be downloaded from here :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US〈=English&pnameOID=62577&prodSeriesId=50451&prodTypeId=15351&basePartNum=COL3578&locBasepartNum=ns-12645-1&os=Microsoft+Windows+2000+Server&tech=Software++Storage+Controller

As asked before, can you supply more details on the hang issue ? is it the server that hangs or does the rebuild just stops ? If one of the remaining 2 good disks has a bad block then the rebuild can never complete, if all necessary s/w is installed, the Eventlog from Windows or the raid.log file should show us this.

HTH

Kris
