An extended NetRAID 2M Controller

Hallo,

I've a HP L6000 Machine with 10 SCSI 3 (9GB) disks for the applications an 2 SCSI 3 (9GB) disks for the Operation System. And I have extended NetRAID 2M Controller, where the 10 disks connected. The two Systemdisks are now connected as seriall to the SE SCSI-Port on the integreted NetRAID controller. My Problem is, the Aplication Disks I can mirror (RAID1) bye the extended NetRAID-2M-Controller, but the System disks I can't mirror it. What must I do for this.

What I tried is, I connected the first Systemdisks to the SCSI A Port and the second to the SCSI B -Port, but it was unsucced, because on the NETRAID Express-Tool I can't see the two disks. On Adapter-1 I can see the 10 disks, but on Adapter-2 I see nothing.

Are the two system disks internal? Make sure that everything is terminated properly.

I would suggest to install only one of the disks to one of the channels of the netraid 2M controller. I would configure this disk as RAID 0 disk, standalone disk, no redundancy. Then i would install the second disk on the same bus & channel ( same cable, other SCSI adress). Using the netraid utility you can upgrade the raid 0 set with the first disk to a raid 1 set with both disks. Rebuild will take some time ....

Another possible way is make a raid 1 set with the 2 disks, so losing all data and use your last backup to restore the data on the raid 1 set.

It sounds like you have 2 common tray HDD(non hot swappable drives), and 10 Hot swap HDD in the cages. Since you want to run a mirrored set on the OS HDD, connect those to the onboard netraid controller on channel A. Make sure the the NETRAID is enabled for the onboard controllers in the BIOS. Then connect the hot swap drive cages to both channels on the 2m controller. Both controllers use ctrl-m to enter the config utility. You should have an option in ctrl-m in the main menu that says adapters, selecting that should allow you to switch between the 2 controllers (You may need to goto objects>adapters to get to the adapter selection menu). You can then create the mirrored array on the common tray drives, and then put the 10 hotswap drives in their own array(s).
