LP1000r CPU Fan

Hello all,

I have a "Fan Event Code - 420", "Description - Fan Sensor CPU Fan No.1" which indicates the fan is failing.

However, I have failed to find the part that replaces the faulty fan. Can anyone help to provide the part number for CPU Fan No.1 for an Netserver LP1000r. I've been searching for some time with no luck.

Any input would be greatly appriciated.

Dear Danny,

Could you try MP>CM>DF command, which will display the list of FRUs and Model&Part No etc, you can try to match.

The Part No varries from server to server, please check the service manual.

hi,

Theres only one cpu fan in the lp1000r server, this is the blower fan which blows past both CPU's.

P1810-63013 is the part number for replacement.

Here is the service manual and you will find details on page 28 item 10

I can now order the replacement part and take care of this.

I dont have many original manual as these servers were setup pre-"my time", so the PDF is a big help, THANKS AGAIN!

I hope you have not ordered that part. The part number given above is for the LP2000r CPU blower assembly.
Take a look at the large black fan in the LP1000r. There is one thumbscrew which is easy to loosen, but you will see the fan is not designed to be removed from the systemboard.
Replacing the fan in the LP1000r requires a core box replacement. The corebox replacement includes systemboard & fan. Sorry for the bad news.
There are 2 different corebox replacement parts - it depends on the model number / CPU speed of your LP1000r.

I have not order the unit yet. In part because we think it may have been replaced already since the date on the event is from 2004 (by previous admin no longer here) and now, thanks to you, because it could be the wrong part.

Thank you for saving me the time of ordering and possibly having to ship back the unit once recieved.

I have an addition question if I may.

Since there is a possibility that the part
has been replaced, is there a way to clear/reset the event code and/or front panel LED's? If the part has not been replaced the red LED and event code should remain, correct?

I preformed a similar task on a NetServer LH3r a few weeks ago and I was able to clear the event code from the front panel display which in turn seened to reset the LED from red to green and clear the event code when viewing in the TopTools Utility.

You are quite right, if the part has already been replaced (and fixed the problem), you can clear the red or amber LED by clearing the HP event log.
If you have HP Instant TopTools installed under Windows, you can access the event log from this program and use the clear (or erase) log option. Otherwise create the bootable event viewer diskette, which also provides option to clear the log (you can save log first to a file if you want):

If you have any trouble getting directly to the URL above, try these steps:

3. In the test box, type "LP 1000r" (with no quotes, but you need the space)
4. Select a LP1000r model (does not matter which).
5. Select Â» Cross operating system (BIOS, Firmware, Diagnostics, etc.)
6. Under the Utility section of the subsequent web page you will find this link:

"HP Server Hardware Event Log Display Utility"

Download the HEL, run exe and it will prompt you for 1 or 2 diskettes. Disk # 1 is bootable. Boot server from diskette. Use clear or erase option to clear the HEL.

Harris,

I have cleared the event log using the TopTools utility, but unfortunately it did not clear the fan event message.

I have attached a .bmp image to show exactly what it is I am looking at and worried about in the TopTools event viewer. Maybe it's nothing to worry about???

I won' be able to determine if the part in fact has been replaced untill I open the server up later this evening or this week (as it is a mission critical server and needs to be done off peak hours)

I want to make sure of one thing. How many hard drives do you have installed in this server? And how many drives could be installed? These would be hot plug or hot swap (same thing) only.

Ok, I was just making sure this really WAS a LP1000r and not a LP2000r :) It is a LP1000r.
Yellow alert with zero rpm does not make sense. I'm thinking the HP management/monitoring stuff might be reporting a problem when there really isn't one. When you able to pop the top on this box there is no easy way to verify fans are spinning. But I would say just run with it. If the fan(s) have failed or are failing, if the server finally quits its a core box replacement to fix fans. So you'd get a new system board anyway if you have to replace parts.

Hi Danny,

Here's another thing you should check because it is really confusing on the LP1000r. The fans in the server are connected to power connectors that are labeled differently than what you actually plug into them. Here's how they should look:

CPU_FAN1 - I/O Area Fan
(the one that blows over the PCI Card; left side if you're facing the front)

CPU_FAN2 - Power Supply
(There is a 2-wire connector, blue & black, that come out of the power supply)

CHA_FAN1 - System Board Fan
(Next to the I/O Area Fan that blows over the RAM)

CHA_FAN2 - Primary CPU Blower.

Make sure all these connectors are properly seated in the correct positions. Since the CPU_FAN1 Connector powers the I/O area fan, it would make sense to check and see if it is spinning.

The fan connections given above are actually for the LP2000r :). These are the fan connections for the CPU blower assembly (runs down middle of the LP2000r) and the PCI Riser cage fan. There are no removable connections on the LP1000r fan, no cables or connectors.

Hi Terri,

Sorry, I don't mean to contradict you here -- I know you've been doing this much longer than I have -- but I just visually verified the connectors on the 2 LP1000's in our lab. The system board is identical to the one on the LP2000, with the same connectors. It's just the fans themselves that are different; they aren't hard-wired.

Is the 1.14GHz+ different from the 1GH- maybe?

I am going to take all this info and try various steps.

First would be to check the fans physically and see if I can determine if the parts have been replaced and if they appear to be functioning and pushing the proper amount of air flow. Then what you all mentioned.

I dont know if it matters, but I forgot to mention that the fan LED onthe front panel is steady red. So there is something wrong somewhere.

I will keep you guys updated.

hi,

just to argue a bit with terry's responce

the part number I gave is correct for the single blower in the LP1000R

the part number for the two fans in the LP2000R are

P1824-63047 primary fan
P1824-63044 secondary fan

Also the service manual would not have part number if it was not originally orderable.
I would check it is correctly connected on all pins and aslo look at updating the Bios if you need to.

Unfortunately the service manual for the LP1000r is incorrect - where it lists an orderable fan. The LP1000r fan comes with the core box replacement.

I'm also unable to find replacement fan for our lp1000r (1,26GHz) server. I'm also interested in all fans concerning this model, since we have multiple servers.

Part numbers would be nice.
