My LPr Pro server powers on for about 1/2 second then goes off. I tried replacing the power supply and that didn't help. When I press the power switch nothing happens when I press a second time it powers up for half second then goes off. Has anyone encountered this situation or have any suggestions?

Regards.

When was it last working ok? A good place to start is to take the server to base. This means disconnecting floppy drive and CD-ROM, removing any PCI cards. Remove any hard drives. Does this make any difference to the power situation?

I just tried powering up in March2006 after about 2 years just sitting un-used. I'll try what you suggested to see if that makes a difference.

Well, I disconnected floppy, cd, nic, both hd's and no change. It's as if it's trying to power up but something is not allowing it to.

Paul,

There is no Netserver "LPr Pro". There is a:

Netserver LPr
Netserver LH Pro
Netserver LP 1000r,etc

If you provide the serial number I should be able to look it up. Or the product number.

This might actually be a critical system board or system board problem. Safest thing to start with is clearing CMOS:

1. Unplug server and remove top cover
2. Locate the set of system switches (8 switches)near the round CMOS battery.
3. Move switch #5 to the opposite position
4. Power up. If it stays powered up, it will stop or hang during POST.
5. Power off, unplug, and flip the switch back to the original position.
On rare occasions if this clear cmos does not work the first time, it may after a couple of more tries.

If no change it is probably a critical failure of the system board or system component such as the CPU. Good luck with this.
