Hi Larry,

I believe all you really need to do is click on Logical Drive-->Change Config-->Add Capacity.

However, before doing this, I'd recommend right-clicking on the logical drive under Logical Devices in the Netraid assitant and run Check Consistency to guard against parity errors.

Bryan

Hopefully my suggestions were taken in light of you running netraid assistant...I guess maybe I should have been more specific with regard to the commands. ;-)

Bryan

Hi Larry,

Bryan is on the right track here. It's always best to make sure your stripe set is consistent. When that's done click on the new drive to highlight it, then right-click on LD0 in the logical devices section. Go down to the Advanced Menu and choose Add Drive.

When it's done reconstructing your array, disk management will then show an additional 34731MB of unallocated space which you can then partition and format into another drive letter. If you're RAID-5 is partitioned with a primary and extended partition, you can expand the extended partition to include the free space using Diskpart.exe

Try it out and let us know how it goes,

Sean T. Craig Sr. C.E.T., M.C.P.

P.S. Say thanks with points
Thank you for your help on this issue...We were able to successfully expand the data array to include the new SCSI drive thru the HP NetRaid assistant...We then used disk manager in Server 2000 to partition (Drive D) and format the new unallocated space that the OS recognized.

But I have a new question...Is it possible in Server 2000 to increase (expand) the size of the default (Drive C) partition instead of having to have a C and new D partition? I understand that there are third party applications that will provide this ability but I am leary of trusting them on a production server...

Thanks, Larry.

Hi Larry,

Unfortunately, Microsoft does not provide the ability to expand a primary partition (i.e. C: drive). If you had already partitioned your RAID-5 into a C: and a D: partition, you could have expanded the extended D: partition to include the additional space. Therefore, the only ways are to recreate the array and restore from backup or to use a third-party application such as partition magic.

Hope this helps,

Sean T. Craig Sr. C.E.T., M.C.P.

P.S. If this information was helpful, please take the time to assign points to the responses rating their value.
Greetings.
I have run into the same scenario as Laurence regarding lack of drive space which an Exchange information store resides on.
Server OS: Win2000
NetRaid Assistant:Loaded and operational
Raid Level: 5
SCSI drives including new one are all the same size.
My question is if the d:drive is running low on space is the new additional space added to the D: directly?
Original d:= 65g
add another 36g for a total of 101G on d:
Any issues if the disk are dynamic?
Will the Netraid controller support 2 logical arrays being a mirrored set + raid 5?
Thanks in advance

Troy
