HP Netserver LH3 Stand-alone with NetRaid

I have the task of loading SuSe Linux 8.1 on to this LH3 which presently has SCO Unix on it. The machine has three (3) 9.1 GByte hot-swop drives in a raid five (5) configuration.

Trying to boot from the SuSe CDROM and it cannot find ANY drives.

I'm sort of a newbie at this.

What steps must I take to accomplish this task?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Your LH3 has the dreaded MegaRAID Raid Controller. (just kidding to you HP purists)
There is Linux support for this controller, but generally there is some work involved.
To a Newbie, this task can be very intimidating.

Luckly, you are using SuSE, so there is better support out-of-the-box than most.

A simple solution is to mount an internal SCSI drive (D7176A) and attach it to the Adaptec SCSI onboard controller. ou will have a driver for the Adaptec, but not one for the RAID controller, which will be necessary to access the logical drive the NetRAID creates

I tried the instructions I gave you to in a link from SuSE on my LT6000r.
Those instructions were not good enough for SuSE 10 Enterprise.
I will need to try again with a non-enterprise SuSE distribution.

So, what's my point??
...you are still stuck with trying to install Linux on a MegaRAID controller and now I am in the same boat as you.

It was suggested to install a non-RAID hard drive to use as a bootable system volume, then later, after a normal install, recompile the kernel with MegaRAID support.
Unfortunately, my LT6000r does not have physical space for such a drive, so this option is not available to me.

So, I am looking for a solution to this installing Linux (any Distribution) on a MegaRAID controller problem.
(not a true problem, but an unsolved opportunity)
