Is there an option in the bios of HP 520 notebook
to set the date? Is there an available bios update?

Did you ever go to HP Support pages for your product for updates. All things software, include the last BIOS are available at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3375954&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3375952&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093
But there the first thing in the BIOS is to set the dat and time.
