Hello,

for clearing the eventlog, why not using the integrated remote managment port? From there its only to press a button.

BR
Hans-Juergen Lange

Hi there,

Had a couple questions about the LH4...

- How do I access / clear the system log on the front panel? Do I need software?

- Can I change the front panel to display the unix system monitor? (ie: RUN F01F) Is there a linux module for it? (I'm running gentoo with a 2.6 series kernel.)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Chris,

In order to clear the event log, you need to download the hardware event log display utility from here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50440&prodNameId=15383&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ns-11635-1

Run the executable and it will write an image to a floppy diskette. Restart the server to the disk and you can view/clear the log.

The front panel is connected directly to the Netserver Management Controller via the IPMI interface and I don't know of any way to have it monitor another component.

Hope this helps,

Sean T. Craig Sr. C.E.T., M.C.P.

I saw the port on the back of the server, but was unfamiliar with how it works. Is it similar to serialing into a router? Unfortuantely I can't find a manual that would say how to do this.

hello,

there is a floppy disk image with the so called Remote Managment Configurator. The machine boots from this floppy into a utility to configure the managment port. Important are, one user and the communication speed. Its o.k with 19200 Baud.
The connection to this port could be done with a null-modem cable for an interconnection between PC's. But one thing very important is, that the cable allows real hardware handshake.
I dont know what line (RTS/CTS/DTR/DSR) the managment port uses to detect the terminal, but without it you cannot get any reaction from the remote managment.
Maybe one of the HP gurus knows more about the line.
I come around that because I had a DEC-V24-Line adapter for the original DEC V24 cable on that port. To use the managment port I bought an old vt510 Terminal with the V24 cable.

BR
Hans-Juergen Lange
