The following HOWTO has some info on this.

http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/

Looks like they converted everything but /boot and swap to LVM and used an initial ramdisk to get lilo to boot the kernel using a root filesystem that is on a lvol.

It is noted in the HOWTO that upgrades to the system will be difficult if you decide to do this.

--
Tony

######### WARNING #########
I was talking to a Red Hat sales rep and a Red Hat engineer and they both told me that - to date - LVM is known to corrupt data. This is the reason that Red Hat has excluded LVM from it's professional release version. It is still on their home version (Red Hat 8.0) - it may be some time before it get fixed.

Interesting.

I've heard from HP that LVM is so popular on Linux that they've decided not to move HP-UX to the new Veritas Volume Manager they licenses.

The reason lvm is so popular as HP puts it is its easier to use than the native Linux utiliities.

hmmmm.

While it is true that it's easy to use and I must admin when my company was piloting Linux we our French counterparts installed SuSE (shudder) and it came with LVM. Red had told us that on linux LVM was known to corrupt data.... we didn't experience this problem but I wouldn't want to take the chance if this were a production linux box.
