Memory for DL380 G6

Hi, I am not sure about memory, and I wanted to check with you guys. I want to add memory. Since DL380 is using triplets I thought to add 3x2GB, but what will happen if I add just 1x8GB. Will triple channel work (I think it won't). Which solution is better. I am not sure so I would appreciate some advice.

hi,

it's not supported the memory modules are in pairs.

the memory configuration is also depend how much CPU ( physical socket ) do you use.

Thanks for quick reply.But how pairs? That mean that I have to buy 2xsomeGB. And I have 3 slots for memory by the CPU. Doesn't that mean that I need to buy triplets so I can have each stick in memory bank ?

at first, what is your current CPU and memory confguration :

1 CPU / 2 CPU ???

how much memory modules do you have already inside the server ???

This is configuration from insight manager. I

in this case, you have only one CPU installed, with 1x2 GB dims per channel, so i would recomend you to add 3x 2 GB dims, the final memmory size will be 12 GB.

check the document that i post as attachment in previous post, there is also this model :
UDIMM maximum configuration (1 CPU model)
12GB, consisting of six (6) 2GB dual-rank PC3-10600 UDIMMs
NOTE: When using UDIMM memory modules, only two UDIMMs can be installed per memory channel. Total memory slots available will be (6) for one processor models and (12) for two processor models.

if you need the final memory size higher as 12 GB you need to add more modules, or bigger size for example 4 GB, because of the CPU clock.

! don't forget to check which type of memmory do you have installed.

Hello,

I've been adding memory on the DL380G6 and learned much from that. Just want to alert you about memory ranking when adding/purchasing new memory. Since both dual and quadrank modules are supported (not together). Be aware, server will not allow more then 8 ranks/channel. Meaning with quadranks, only 2 dimms/channel or 6/cpu.
