The person tried it physically. With the riser in the original/default position the board is too long.

with the riser moved to the 2nd position, the board is too high.

They opened a support call and was directed to the Smart Array table which only lists up the P800, and was told the P812 is not support.

Anyone own this card?

Why, what's the question or problem?

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13234_div/13234_div.HTML

Based on the quickspecs, the DL380 G6 has a standard FH/FL X8 PCIe slot so the P812 should install fine. Also in the quickspecs the P812 is available as an option for this server.

Understood it is clearly documented in the quickspec. However, I have someone telling me that it won't fit.

I believe the problem is the default location of the PCIe riser board. The processor cage is in the way so it is not possible to install a full length PCIe card like the P812.

They tried unscrewing the riser board from default primary riser position to the secondary riser position and still it could not fit.

I don't have any photos, so haven't seen it first hard so hoping to find someone who has actually installed it.

The physical dimensions of the P812 are here

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13558_div/13558_div.html#Technical Specifications

Full length expansion boards are mentioned in the service manual as well, page 50.

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01705597/c01705597.pdf

Also in the userguide on page 55.

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01705681/c01705681.pdf

The person that told you that the P812 does not fit, what do they base their claim? Did they try it or just looked at the PCI cage?

If HP says it is supported, I would believe HP. If there are problems, I would ask HP to resolve them or be accountable for any misinformation.

The smart array table is an older cumulative document and may not have been updated properly.

The DL380 G6 quickspecs is much newer and I would tend to believe that.

The support center people sometimes take the easy way out and might give you an answer like the one you described.

Did he challenge the support people about the P812 being an option in the server quickspecs?

Is this person hardware savvy and do you trust that he was capable of installing the card in the PCI cage?

Are you going to install the card yourself? If so can you open the server and measure the slot room and compare that to the card dimensions?

In the end I am not saying that it will fit or will not fit, the DL380 G6 is a very versatile server in terms of PCIe capacity (and disk capacity) and I would expect the P812 option to be installable and if the card does not fit it should have been caught up by now.

I have a P800 installed in a DL380 G7. The P800 and P812 are physically the same size. The riser cage in the DL380 G6 and G7 are the same. See attached photo

Hi.
Yes. I done it today. It fits nice to x8 port on riser. U can read user manual on page 55.
Use this link : http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01705681/c01705681.pdf

Good luck.

Jimmy's picture helped me out on this. The full sized P800, if placed in the correct PCI slot over by the power supplies, tucks in just right above the CPU heat sink. It doesn't look like it will fit, but it does in that particular slot.
