Hi has anyone had any past experience with HP DL380 G3 fan noise?

I am looking to get one for a friend but not sure of noise levels that they produce.

If any one has any comments I would appreciate some feedback.

Regards
Andrew

Have'nt seen any Fan Noise issue on DL380 G3 Server.

DL380 G3 uses hardware-based fan control logic to the system board.

Always ensure that:
1) You have installed the latest ProLiant support pack (PSP),
2) Latest system ROM is installed for the DL380 G3 server, and
3) Health driver is running on the installed OS.

Thanks
DL380 G3 pretty noisy for home use, if that what you mean. If you looking something for home use try to get stand alone server with large fans

I'm looking at a g3 right now! Here's the deal with fan noise.

The 2U form factor is for keeping it in a rack. That said, nothing is stopping you from leaving it on a table/desktop. The ML series is the likely better form factor for an office. It looks like a big box.

The intricacies of the fan noise go something like this:

Window OS: Install a supported version of Windows Server and the PSP and Bob's yer uncle. Fan speed is tamed during boot.

HP Supported Linux distros: Install the Linux PSP and Bob's yer uncle. Fan speed is tamed during boot. ex. Debian Stable.

Where it gets tricky is unsupported Linux distros. ex. Debian Testing. The app that manages the fan is a non-free binary blob. The fan roars at full speed. Mine will end up in a data center, so I don't really care. Alien package converter doesn't help in every case.
