Unable to create new array or LUN on DL 380 G7

Hi all,

I added two disk on a DL 380 G7 (146 Gb)
I can see these disks on cpqacuxe or acucli. But I cannot create LUN.

When I want to create LUN using acucli,
I have :

Error: This operation is not supported with the current configuration.
Use the "show" command on devices to show additional details about the configuration.

Config :
Smart Array P410i in Slot 0 (Embedded) (sn: 5001438007E70BA0)

array A (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB)

logicaldrive 1 (68.3 GB, RAID 1, OK)

physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, SAS, 72 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:1:2 (port 1I:box 1:bay 2, SAS, 72 GB, OK)

array B (SAS, Unused Space: 0 MB)

logicaldrive 2 (68.3 GB, RAID 1, OK)

physicaldrive 1I:1:3 (port 1I:box 1:bay 3, SAS, 72 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 1I:1:4 (port 1I:box 1:bay 4, SAS, 72 GB, OK)

unassigned

physicaldrive 2I:1:5 (port 2I:box 1:bay 5, SAS, 146 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 2I:1:6 (port 2I:box 1:bay 6, SAS, 146 GB, OK)

Hi,

If I understand correctly, you are unable to perform the activity because there is no BBWC for P410i Controller.

With BBWC (Battery Back Write Cache) upgrade, you can perform these activities:

Online array expansion
Online logical drive extension
Online RAID level migration
Online strip size migration

Hi,

you have to create a Array for the unassigned drives first.
Afterwards you can create a logical volume (LUN).

What command did you execute?

If you want to create a logical drive on a group of physical drives that are not yet assigned to an array,
you do not have to build the array first. In the CLI, unlike in the GUI, the array is created automatically at
the same time as the logical drive.

hmm, command looks fine.
have you tried do use the drives directly / drives=1:5,1:6 ?

thats why i donÂ´t like the cli, sometimes...

try with 2:1:5,2:1:6

sry, should be 2I:1:5,2I:1:6

but nevertheless, the first command already worked for me, just tested with a DL360 G7..

if this does not work, iÂ´m out of ideas, you can try without a reboot :-/
one last thing: make a diag and check the output.

Some information for help....

OS : Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5.
From HP website, the PSP for OEL is 8.41 but his friend PSP for RHEL 5.5 is 8.60

Newer disk have HPD7 firmware and older disk have HPDD firmware.

You are forgetting the letter 'I' after the port number, 2I indicates second internal port.

Markus has posted the correction for you. Please confirm you are executing the command with the drive syntax Marcus posted.

Already tested.

I posted the problem because I cannot create new LUN with cpqacuxe and hpacucli.

With cpqacuxe, I not have any option for create LUN. And the other LUN already created have a lock icon.

Can you try generate and adu report? You can do it from the web based cpqacuxe or from hpacucli with the 'diag' option.

You have P410i/ZM (zero cache memory) and this configuration allows to create two arrays only. If you want to create more arrays you need to add at least 256MB cache memory (462968-B21). BBWC is not requirement for ability to create more arrays. This cache (without battery) will function as read cache only.

If you want to enable write cache, you need BBWC or FBWC, one of the following:
462967-B21 HP 512MB BBWC
534916-B21 HP 512MB FBWC
534562-B21 HP 1GB FBWC

Hi all,

I had a look at its problem.
What's strange is that in the acu he doesn't have any options even on existing luns. For example no way to suppress an existing lun or array, and the luns have the locked icon, like when ctrl config is locked.

It appears like if the ctrl was locked, but server have already been rebooted, and the locks files of the acu already cleaned too.

You have two drives available 5 and 6. You created two RAID arrays.

Try installing the firmware on controllers and drives. Maybe you need to upgrade them first.
