Hi,

Can we have the part numbers of the memory installed in the server?

The DL380 G4 only supports the PC2-3200 Registered DDR-2 SDRAM DIMMs, 1.8 volts, 72 bits wide, and ECC.

Make sure these parameters are met:

* Install DIMMs with the same speed.
* Install DIMMs into both slots within a single bank. Install DIMMs in order.
* Upgrade memory by installing DIMM pairs into banks in sequential bank order, starting with bank B.

Check the part number.
The DIMMs are physically very similar between the G3 and G4.
The G4 will not accept the PC2100 DIMMs used on the G3.

Regards,
rmn

Hi Psahd,

If dual-rank DIMMs are installed in Bank A and Bank B, no additional DIMMs may be installed in Bank C.

Check the QuickSpecs for HP ProLiant DL380 Generation 4 (G4)Section - HP ProLiant Model DL380 Generation 4 (G4) Dual Rank Support:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12028_div/12028_div.html

Hope this answers your query.

Regards,
Raj.

Hi Psahd,

The P/N 343056-B21 is a single rank module and is a valid memory for DL380G4.

When I checked your first post, it is mentioned that you are installing 512MB chips are slot 5 & 6. Donot install the lower capacity chips in slot 5 & 6.

It is recommended to install 512MB chips in Slot 1 & 2 and then install higher capacity Memory chips in other banks/slots. Check if this resolves the issue.

Regards,
Raj.

Hi Raj

I installed the 2 x 512 as a test. The result was the same as the 2 x 1G. - No boot.
My aim is just to install 6 GB into the machines. (2 x 1GB)(2 x 1GB)(2 x 1GB)
All 3 servers have the same symptoms. SO I can rule out faulty mem?

Hi Psahd,

Has we know that all the memory is good and it is some issue with the board. I would recommend you to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version and check if the issue gets resolved. If issue still exists contact HP Customer Support and log a case.

Online ROM Flash component for Windows - HP ProLiant DL380 G4:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/25232.html

Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for HP ProLiant DL380 G4:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/24647.html

Regards,
Raj.

Thanks Raj for the assistance. I was the unlucky one! HP supplied me with 4 2G Kits (2 x 1G). The part numbers of the kits were right, but the part number on the 1G modules were not all the same. 4 ended with 815, and 4 ended with 051. Provided I use the same p/n , it boots up. So... HP needs to sort this out!!
