topic Raid 5 in ProLiant Servers (ML,DL,SL)

We have a ML350 G5 with the standard raid setup of RAID 1 (2x72GB disks) and RAID 5 (3x146GB disks). The computer has 8 slots, so currently only 5 are used. All are SAS and hot swappable.

My question is if i add one 146GB disk to my existing RAID 5 what will happen? do i need to reconfigure the raid?

hi

if you add a new HDD to your RAID 5 it's OK.
I think you want to expand your RAID 5 space right?

if so
you just need to follow a procedure called:
EXPAND and EXTEND
EXPAND: you select the drive to be part of the RAID
EXTEND: you add the space to your RAID

and after that go to disk management and add the new space to you windows / linux
BTW no matter RAID level it's the same procedure

check the PDF attached

regard
