Fetching serial number programmatically

Is there a way to fetch the BIOS serial number programmatically? I am writing an inventory program that want to run on all Proliants in the company and forward to our inventory system.

Please help. If not a programmatic way, is there a utility that will output the serial number to the screen that I can pipe and send on to our inventory system?

run

type WMIC

then bios get serialnumber

and you should how the serialnumber

Try also Systems Home Management page if you have it installed. It's under the system's configuration tab or section of the gui screen- System Summary. Under asset information.
