Hello,

Offically stumped...

I am attempting to rebuild an old DL380 G4 server. Unfortunatly I am unable to do so since the keyboard stops responding towards the end of it's POST/startup and continues to not respond through any BIOS utilities such as ProLiant Flash Update, SmartStart, Windows OS installations. The keyboard will start responding only once the previous OS on the system has loaded.

During the POST I am able to succesfully use the keyboard to input F8 for iLO Configurations, F8 for HP Smart Array Configuration, Ctrl A for SCSI Configuration... once the POST reaches HP Ethernet Boot Agent (7.7.8) the keyboard stops responding. Since System Configuration (F10) is the final option of POST, I am unable to enter it as the keyboard is no longer responding at this point. No keyboard errors are appearing in POST. Server is not running on a KVM.

So far I have...

1. Cleared both CMOS and NVRAM using system maintenance switch.

2. Replaced keyboard with several different PS2 keyboards.

3. Replaced keyboard with serveral different USB keyboards.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your reply.

As mentioned in OP the server is not running off a KVM.

Sorry, somehow I missed the word "not".

Do you have BIOS Version: 2007.07.19 (24 Jan 2008) installed?

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=3288132&spf_p.tpst=psiSwdMain&spf_p.prp_psiSwdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3Dlang%253Den%257Ccc%253DUS%257CprodSeriesId%253D397634%257CswItem%253DMTX-3c502ebf3d484b88bcbbd135ac%257CprodNameId%253D3288132%257CswEnvOID%253D1005%257CswLang%253D8%257Cmode%253D5%257Caction%253DdriverDocument&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

I would try to create a usb stick with this bios version based on smartstart firmware 9.30 or even the newest SPP, add the firmware and boot from it. The default is automatic boot, no interaction needed. If everything works from running OS you can also do an update from within the OS.

The fixes list has several entries like "hang during POSt" so it could fix your strange issue.
