there are 2 arrays set up on that server, the spare hdd in array 1 is 750GB and the spare hdd in array 2 is 1TB - wouldn't swaping them around for a few mins mess things up?

For some reason the light isn't coming on, on one of the spare hard drives. It's showing up in the raid controller. I did run diagnostics but that didn't show anything and while the blue light came up on all hard drives (including another spare), it did not on this particular one. I have rescanned the raid and the spare is showing up - so I'm not sure if the light is broken or if there's an issue with the hard drive?

Usually spare hard drives do not have led on them as they are inactive and also as they are not part of any logical drive however if you run diags or choose a hard drive in ACU , spare should blink led as well like as you have mentioned for another spare hard drive, swap the hard drives around to see if it is the backplane( as backplane holds the led path ) or if it is hard drive itself.
