I would like to install Windows Server 2012 (and Hyper V 2012) on a ML350G6 Server.

I am not sure that HP Supports 2012 on G6.

Am I likely to experience any difficulties if I was to do it anyway?

I also have a ML110G7.

I would like ot use the virtual replication and failover features of 2012

The ML350G6 currenty runs SBS2011. It is mission critical. Which I would like to virtualise to take advantage of the failover features.

Thanking you.

Hi Jeffrey

If you do try to install WS2012+Hyper-V on an ML350G6, I'd be very interested to know if it works or not. I have a cluster of DL360G6s of good spec that I was planning to upgrade. If the ML350G6 works then I figure it may work on the DL360 of the same generation.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed that my 2 year old servers (still under warranty, and still performing fine) are not going to be officially supported by HP.

Thanks

A

According to a colleague of mine, he managed to get Hyper-V server 3.0 working on a DL585G5, so that does give me some hope. Obviously there will be no system management home page, ACU, etc, but we can live without that.

A friend of mine at another company has many G6 servers, so I'll post here again once he's tried to install WS2012 to let you know.

I have 2 DL380 G5's running Hyper-V 2012 and have loaded 1 with 2012 standard without issue. No aditional drivers were necessary and the array config util for 2008 R2 works on 2012.

Enable Virtualization through the BIOS first and No Execute bit.

If you are running Hyper-V 2012 you may want to consider out of band managment / iLO Advanced licenses so you don;t have to be too concerned about silent failures down the road.

I have installed Server 2012 on an ML350 G6 Server and after installing the latest service pack all devices now show in Device manager as having drivers.

Yes - the System management homepage doesnt show any items but this is only because the SMTP service has not access in the public and private community Strings.

once I added in the string to the Service and logged back in to System Managment Homepage, I now get all the health status as I do on a 2008 R2.

This might be useful for those out there testing 2012 on G6 Models.
