Windows 2012 SNMP and Utilities

I've just build my first Windows 2012 server on a new DL380p G8 server. I was disappointed to find that no Insight Manager utilities shipped with the server. When I go out to the downloads area on the HP site, I find there are no Insight Manager or any other management utilities available for Windows 2012. Does anyone know what the status is for these things? We do remote monitoring of our servers and it's hard to do that without SNMP or WMI tools at the hardware level.

Hi,

Please check that SNMP is installed... If SNMP is not installed before U run the SPP, the Insight Agents will not be installed since they depend on the SNMP service...

So if not installed, add the SNMP service and then install the Insight Agents...

Know that from Gen8 on, U do not need the SNMP Agents anymore... U can also use the AMS Agentless Management Service... However, today it is not that complete yet as is the SNMP agents... But I assume this will change in the future... More details about that in the ILO User Guide under Agentless Management...

Thanks for the reply. I did not have SNMP installed under Windows 2012. I have now done that, but I still can't find any HP management tools on their website. How do I download/install the HP tools?

Thanks! Your link didn't work but I did find the SPP and install all available options. Now I have an HP Insight Manager icon on the desktop. When I lauch it I don't see any component status, but I still need to reboot and confirm the SNMP configuration. I will let you know if everything is working tomorow.

Hi,

Correct there is a typo... I will change it...

Don't forget to enter at least a read-only community string inside SNMP configuration, otherwise it will not work...

It still doesn't work. (The underlying hyperlink has "gp".) I would suggest you delete the whole line and replace by the full URL:

Bart,

After applying all available updates and rebooting, I now see a Version Control option in IMH, but nothing else. I have configured the SNMP service under Windows with a community name. What am I missing? I've attached a picture of the what I'm seeing.

There is still a problem with SNMP... U can see that because the System Model is Unknown... Normally there must be HP Proliant xxxxxxxx...

Did U enter correctly a community string at least for Read-Only?

I added the community string in the Windows service, but I didn't find a place in IMH to configure any SNMP settings. Where should I look for this?

Normally adding the string inside the Windows service itself is enough... Don't need to add it inside the SMH itself, it will pick it up from Windows...

Don't know directly what this could be since it seems that all settings look OK to be able to make it work...

At this moment I don't have a Gen8 server with 2012 on it to simulate...

I was able to get the various agents by running HP SUM and downloading all the updates available from the HP FTP site.
