Yup - 8G on either side, swapped them around - RAM is fine.

We have a DL360 G7 that came with one CPU (5620). When I add a second CPU (5620) the fans go into a frenzy and it will not boot off the CD. I switched the 2nd cpu to the 1st slot - fine. I put the 1st cpu into the 2nd slot - fine. I just cant run 2 cpus...any ideas?

P.S. This thread has been moved from Servers > General to ProLiant Servers (ML,DL,SL) - HP Forums Moderator

hi,

There some steps that you can check:

BIOS update

Memory config

but in the most cases , this issue is caused from a damaged part(CPU or systemboard). Please check for bent pins.

Thanks

regards,

BIOS and firmware at optimum levels.

we tried the original cpu in the second slot - fine

we tried the second cpu in the first slot - fine

this indicates to me that its not the cpus or the slots - its just running two cpus at the same time.

we actually have a second server that has the same issue and a third that is just fine with 2 cpus - poser, eh?

Keep in mind that we have 3 servers: one took 2 CPUs fine, the other two exhibit this problem.
