I have downloaded the .scexe file but do not know how to extract the .bin file I need to update the iLO. I copied it down to the ESXi server and ran sh ./CP015685.scexe. I get an error - Make sure these programs are on the path: tar gzip tail sleep rm ln mkdir mktemp

I also tried this command sh CP015685.scexe --unpack=/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ilo I get the error that sh can not open CP015685.scexe

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is a .exe file, use a windows system and double click the file, you would get two options extract and install, click on extract and to a folder, you would find a .bin file, login to ILO and go to admininstration and browse to choose the .bin file

Did you use IE9 to upgrade the iLO2 firmware? I cannot use IE9 to upgrade my iLO2. It always fails.

I have been debugging this issue and it seems there is a bug with the Content-Length in IE9. It is telling iLO2 a wrong lenght value when uploading the bin file and iLO2 ends up declaring the image as invalid.

Edit: Ok, I found the root cause of why IE9 fails to flash iLO2 firmware. I'm getting it fixed in the next iLO2 firmware release.

It was a bug in the iLO2 webserver code that somehow surfaced few months ago after IE9 got some updates. It is related to the content length value that IE9 gives iLO2 when uploading the firmware image. But, not everybody running IE9 sees this issue. Also, I know by fact that if you use a proxy, you're likely not going to see this issue.

Anyway, the bug is fixed in iLO2 version 2.09

Are you already running 2.09 and upgrading to what?

By the way, I was told today that IE8 is exhibiting the same issue now.

Apparently, MS recently patched IE8 and it is now behaving the same way as IE9. The workaround is to upgrade iLO2 firmware to 2.09 using Firefox. Once 2.09 is up and running, next time you need to upgrade iLO2 firmware, you can use IE8 or IE9.

Just ran into this issue myself - both on IE7 and IE8.

Firefox workaround allowed me to upgrade allowed me to get from 1.78 to 2.09.

Please try upgrading from 2.09 to 2.12 using IE8 or IE9. It should work fine now.

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ITRC-remote-lights-out-mgmt-iLO/iLO2-v2-12-released-to-the-FTP/td-p/5735927
