DL380 G6 Installing second 8SFF Cage Kit

Hello,

I currently have a DL380 G6 server with 8 2,5" hard-drives installed and the dvd-rom. I'm plaing to purchase a second 8SFF Cage kit and SAS Expander card so i can plug additional hard-drives into the server.

I suppose i need to buy the following(correct me if I'm wrong):
DL380G6 8SFF Cage Kit: 516914-B21
SAS EXPANDER CARD: 468406-B21

I should say that I'm quite nebs into servers hardware and I've never made such an hardware upgrade ( install a cage kit ).
I'm hoping for someone that could give me some help/guides/indications on how to remove the dvd-rom cage and installing the second 8SFF Cage Kit.

Words,pictures,movies,pdf ... anything that can/could help me

The standard procedure for situations like this is to point your web browser to:

http://www.hp.com/go/support

Then select "Product Support & Troubleshooting", type in your model (DL380 G6) and click on Search.

After confirming your model ("HP ProLiant DL380 G6 Server series"), find "Manuals (guides, supplements, addendums, etc)" under "Resources for HP ProLiant DL380 G6 Server series". From there, you'll find all the documentation that is available for your server.

For this situation, the Server User Guide is the appropriate document:

The procedure starts from page 57.

Alternatively, the Maintenance and Service Guide can help too:

The chapter "Removal and replacement procedures" starts on page 25. On pages 33-34, you'll find instructions for the removal of the DVD-ROM drive and its cage. On pages 38 and 37, you'll find the procedures for installing the drive cage and the drive backplane.

So how did your upgrade it work out?

Did you buy the 468406-B21 Expander card?

What type of disk did you install?

How does it perform?

Hola, como resolvio el problema como van conectados los cables desde la caja adicional de discos a la placa de expansion?
