Smart DVD firmware update sometimes fails.

Hello.

I have a HP Proliant DL580G5.

I've downloaded the new smart update dvd from

I've downloaded last version 2012-06-04.

Burn the dvd and start.

Firmware upgrade starts but at a certain point, at about 90% it freezes and It it was necessary to turn off the server.

Restart the server and it seems all ok, it seems that bios and raid controller firmware was upgraded but I'm worried because the upgrade procedure was not completed well.

I've tried with 2 server and always the upgrade procedure freezes.

Perhaps a bug in the firmware update software?

Please tell me.

It might be possible that the image downloaded was corrupted somehow or there may have been an issue with it while the disk was cut. There does not appear to be any issues documented about this so far.

What may be suggested is that porting the firmware DVD on to USB key and check if that works. Else the image may be downloaded again.

The latest version is of Smart Update Firmware DVD on DL580 G5 is 10.10, dated 4 Jun 2012, which may be downloaded. Click here to download the image for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.

Click here to select desired version of operating system. Then choose 'Smart Update Frimware DVD' listed under section 'Frimware – CD-ROM'.

Whereas the servers run even though I turned off because the update procedure was freezed, do you think I can have some problems?

From what has been stated, there may not be an issue. It has been observed that firmware of key components have been updated indeed.

Review the IML logs for any errors. If an issue is suspected, then download the latest version of the firmware DVD and update firmware again.

At this time it may be early to tell.

Can you tell me where is the section firmware cd rom? I didn't find it.

For example, in the link provided in the post, select Windows 2008 R2 as the operating system. Under ‘Download index’ click ‘Firmware – CD-ROM’

In some operating systems the firmware – CD-ROM may not be listed.

I guess that select an operating system rather than another it makes no difference for the firmware update procedure.

Created the usb drive.
Boot from usb;
on the first server it has completed the procedure;
on the second server the procedure freezes at 15% then I force a server turn off.
Restart from usb and now the update procedure get completed.

Very strange thing.
The problem is the Emulex bios.
I have two HBA installed in each server and now I see only one:

I want to say that before firmware upgrade I saw the two hba of each server.

Now I see only one hba of each server and it's a problem.

Need an answer please.

I've upgraded the firmware using the last service pack and I lost two HBA.

I understand you are disappointed about an issue, but such "advise" is not helpful at all.

You should get in contact with HP support regarding your servers, remember, this is a user-to-user forum.
