380 G7 - Upgrading SAS FW

I am rather new to HP servers so I think I may be lucky only having one persistent issue so far in revising FW and BIOS of a few old 380 G7's that was thrown on my table.

You see, I have several, among others, EG0600FBDBU that need firmware upgrade to HPA(D) this: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_ab492cd06d1943bc91d79bd98c#tab3

However the current firmware is not the latest upgradeable - D7 - it is earlier versions that need other upgrades. to get to D7. And here is where I am at a loss, completely off my rockers. I don't get them, sorry. Anyone have an easier method? I can take out the drives, put them in a Bay, connect them to other computer, anything goes, but I am not able to follow above instructions. Anyone care to explain them a bit or have another method?

Hello,

You have followed the below steps before firmware updates.

1. What is the current hard disk firmware?

2. What is the SA controller firmware in the server and what is the firmware of the SA controller?

3. Update the SA controller firmware first before hard disk firmware updates.

4. You must have the complete data backup before the hard disk firmware update.

5. You can install the hard disk bay but make sure you should have the complete data backup before doing this.

A > Varies. None are upgradeable vis SPP (AFAIK) or the distributed executable linked in my first link, so all are pre D7, D6 is among them.

2. What is the SA controller firmware in the server and what is the firmware of the SA controller?

A> If you refer to the Raid Controller that has been upgraded, it's and 410i.

3. Update the SA controller firmware first before hard disk firmware updates.

A> See 2.

4. You must have the complete data backup before the hard disk firmware update.

A> Not relevant

5. You can install the hard disk bay but make sure you should have the complete data backup before doing this.

A> Not relevant.

You can update the firmware online, if your disk controller has a cache module. WIthout cahce you can update the firmware in offline mode only.

Can you access and download this ISO?

Use the USBkey Tool included in the ISO to create a bootable USB key. Locate the needed firmware file in linux format and add it to hp/packages. Boot the server from this USB key and select interactive mode.

I don't know at the moment if the file is already included.

Just to verify, I get the OS Independent file from this download:

which is the one for D7 and extract the rpm from it and place it where you say.

That one is intended for usage on D6 SAS drives to get them up to D7, which is what I need for posterior upgrades.

USB was successfully made using the USB maker utility inside the SPP ISO file at ..\usb\hpusbkey\ . I do not think using anything else would easily work.

File, CP017206.scexe, was successfully downloaded and placed among other files in ../hp/swpackages/

Booted from USB

After inventory by SUM, it found the SAS firmware and updated the drives to D7. On a sidenote it also updated the SAS controller, which had not been done online.

Result a successful update to my EG0600FBDBU drives on one of my servers., all the drives at once.

Now , to the final update, following same procedure but with the HPDA(C) FW file.

Hum, that is already in the ISO, so I guess them SPP's are cumulative? I gather I just need to rund the same boot and SUM again....
