Caching operations will automatically resume when charging is complete.

856

The cache for Smart Array P440ar in Embedded Slot is disabled due to a cable error from the Smart Storage Battery.

I have now ordered a Smart Storage Battery. Hope it was the culprit.

We have two ProLiant DL360 Gen9 servers working in Cluster mode. One of these servers shows the message “Cache Module Status: Failed” in iLO Overview for Smart Array P440ar Controller.

Photo of error message

The firmware version of the Smart Array P440ar Controller is 4.02. Would updating firmware version from 4.02 to 6.60(B) solve the problem?

Link to firmware version 6.60(B):

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_cd2e7cc9f677434ca79b0faf43

The other server with the same Smart Array P440ar Controller with firmware version 3.56 works well. Should I also update the other well working server Smart Array P440ar Controller from 3.56 to 6.60(B)?

Meanwhile there is a version 7.00:

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_13095de5299a4e97b38dcb58cb#tab-history

There are a lot of cache related fixes between the current and your version.

I would first update the firmware and check. If the issue remains, open a support call and let HPE replace the controller.

Hi Torsten. Thanks for the reply. It did not help to update to the latest firmware version. I got BSOD after restart.

Photo of BSOD

Booting after BSOD at startup could a message:

Booting after BSOD at startup could read the following message:

Embedded RAID 1: Snart array P440ar Controller - (2048 MB, V7.00) 2 Logical Drive (s) - Configuration Required

- 1716-Slot 0 Drive Array - Unrecoverable Media Errors Detected on Drives during previous Rebuild or Background Surface scan. Errors will be corrected when the sector (s) are overwritten. Action: Backup and Restore recommended.

Message after booting

Don’t know what is the cause. The server's warranty expired in December 2019 and we have started emigrating to Azure so it may not pay to replace the Smart Array Controller.

This is likely the system storage battery, this may happen on Gen9.

IIRC you need a 878643-001.
