Hi,

Thanks for the link but unfortunately that's one which I've found several times already in my attempts to decode the messages.

I'm keen to get the details on the correct "POST Code" messages, so I can understand what's causing one of our servers to start up significantly slower than our other servers. The messages of interest are:

* POST Code : 0032

* POST Code : 0034

* POST Code : 003E

TIA

M

Hi,

I'm connecting to a DL360 Gen10 and watching the server boot via the Remote Console (HTML5). Where can I go to find out what all of the "POST Code : xxxx" messages mean? eg: "POST Code : 0034"

I've done the usual searches but I've not found anything so far.

TIA

M

Hello,

I found the document regarding the POST Error codes you may see when server has any issue (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c01702138) but unfortunately I did not find any document on generic POST codes which comes up in remote console screen during the startup sequence.

Note: "While I am an HPE Employee, all of my comments (whether noted or not), are my own and are not any official representation of the company."

Hello,

I have encountered the same issue on an HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 server. During startup, the system takes approximately 45–60 minutes to boot, and the POST code 003E is displayed in the iLO remote console.

In my case, after further inspection, I identified a slight deformation in one of the pins on the motherboard (CPU socket). Based on this, the issue appears to be related to a hardware-level problem affecting memory initialization or communication between the CPU and DIMMs.

Have you identified the root cause in your case? Any additional insights would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Hi @_M_P_

You are not missing anything , this is a common confusion with iLO 5 POST display.
The codes like POST Code: 0032 / 0034 / 003E shown in the iLO remote console are NOT documented in any public HPE reference.
HPE only publishes POST error messages and beep codes, not low-level checkpoint values:
Hewlett Packard Enterprise POST error reference:
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c01702138
According to HPE documentation:
POST messages are generated during hardware initialization
Some are informational only and not actual errors
Only customer-relevant error conditions are documented
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c01702138&docLocale=en_US&sp4ts.oid=502439

“POST Code : xxxx” values actually are
These are UEFI/BIOS checkpoint (progress) codes
They indicate internal initialization stages, such as:
CPU initialization
Memory training
PCI/USB device discovery
HPE does not publish a mapping table for these codes because:
They are firmware-version dependent
They are platform-specific
They are intended for engineering/debug use only
This is why you won’t find official decoding for 0032 / 0034 / 003E.

Please note: These codes are not errors by themselves
Seeing them during boot is normal behavior
They only become relevant if the system hangs or delays excessively at one code

Since decoding is not available, HPE recommends focusing on logs and hardware validation instead:
Please once try these steps so that we can narrow down the issue without relying on undocumented codes:
Check iLO → Integrated Management Log (IML)
This is the primary diagnostic source for real hardware issues
HPE confirms IML contains historical fault data for troubleshooting
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00006024en_us&docLocale=en_US
2. Download and review Active Health System (AHS) log
Provides detailed boot and hardware telemetry
3. Test with minimal hardware
Remove:
USB devices
PCIe cards
External media
Keep only CPU + minimum DIMMs
4. Check physical components
CPU socket pins
DIMM seating and population
5. Update full firmware stack
System ROM (BIOS)
iLO
Use latest SPP baseline

0032 / 0034
Often seen during device initialization (USB / PCI)
Delays can be caused by:
USB devices
Storage controllers
003E
Typically later in POST
Often linked to:
Memory initialization or CPU–DIMM interaction

No official HPE document exists for decoding POST checkpoint codes
Only POST error messages are documented by HPE
These codes are internal progress indicators, not faults
Troubleshooting should rely on:
IML / AHS logs
Hardware isolation
Firmware updates

If you find the reply helpful, please consider clicking on the "Thumbs Up/Kudo" icon.

Thanks & Regards,

Mamatha
