For the so called "disk roaming" you always need to move all disks.

What model is your old server?

Hello.

I have a new server gen10 and an ald one Gen3 (does'n start)

At the old one I have 2 SAS hdd with raid 1.

I want to plug it to the new one to copy the data, but when i plug one hdd, Smart array configuration detects the device as a raid configured, and bloqued it to prevent data loss.

It give me the option to delete or create a new raid, but there are any way where i preserve the data?

How can i plug it to the new server to recovery all data inside.

Thanks.

Old server: ML350 G6

New server: DL360 Gen10

I plugged both to the new one. Smat array recognices both dirves as part an array but doesn't create the raid automatically.

Now i have a logic unit working (new SO) and 2 unatached drives.

Because of lack of space, you will probably need to clone/backup TO external media then insert/configure new drives, then clone/restore FROM external media.

You may clone it or actually do a bare-metal/image backup to restore to the new array.

Hello,

G3 server different SA array controller and hard disk type.
Gen10 supports different types of array controllers and hard disks type.
Raid configuration save in hard disk due to this new controller giving the warning.

You can use hard disks only with the supported controllers, not any other controllers.

Please share both the server SA controller hard disk model, so I will try to check compatibility with the hard disk.

NOTE: I would suggest take the complete data backup before removing the hard disks.

If you feel this was helpful please click the KUDOS! thumb below and accept the solution.
Regards,

Thanks to everyone.

It was my faul. Surelly It didn't work because one of the original disks was degraded.

I made the backup in the original server to a new disks.

One more question.

The original server was RAID 1

It's possible to atach one sas disk to the new controller as a raid0 without data loss?

SATA disks work, but I'm not sure with SAS.

Hello,

You can, if the server has a free slot you can number hard disks as per free slots and create a raid.

If you feel this was helpful please click the KUDOS! thumb below and accept the solution.

Regards,
