I have an HP 380p Gen8 server with 2 Xeon CPUs, 64GB RAM and 25HDDs.
The noise is maintained on average at 65-70dB(A) and during the long boot phase at about 75dB(A) with peaks over 80dB (A).
Even removing 24HDDs the noise does not decrease.

For comparison, an HP 380 Gen7 server always remains at 55-60dB(A) peaking at 65db(A).

As they are inside an office, the noise is particularly annoying. Is there no way to control the use of the fans?
Measuring the temperature we are around 25°C, so there is no need to ventilate the inside of the server.

Hello,

If there are any non-HPE components, please remove them and check.

If there are no non-HPE components, then check if all the fans are working correctly. Reseat or swap the fans.

Update the server's firmware.

If the issue is not resolved, then reseat all components, except the processors.

If the issue is not resolved, then reduce the server to base configuration - with only the installed processors and a memory module for each installed processor

Regards,

Hello,

Please do perform the below to isolate the issue.

1. Please do reseat all the components

2. Please do check the status of the components in the iLO for any failures

3. If the issue persists, perform an SPP update using the latest SPP

4. If the issue persists, please do perform a minimal configuration to check which component is causing the issue.

Thanks.

Certain controllers appear to ramp up the fan RPM regardless of temperature reading. I think the BIOS "sees" them and knows they were designed to have more airflow.

I'd start by pulling ALL cards and controllers from the server and see what happens. Add them back one at a time and see which one is responsible.
