Problem Installing WinServer 2019 on a HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen10 Server

Hello everyone,

please apologize for any lack of knowledge on my side, but this is my first server installation from Scratch with HP Intelligent Provisioning.

I've googled already a lot but the issue I'm facing is still not solved.

I'm starting HP Intelligent Provisioning, the *.iso file is on a memory stick attached to the server, I'll have an array of 2x240GB SSD (Raid 1) for the OS an 2x1TB HDD (Raid 1) for the working data.

Its starting withe the firmware update, it boots the server, and after it says "copingy Driver" the error Command 'unknown' returned non-zero exit status 80.

What I've tried, searching through google is reset the BIOS but that didn't helped and I'm not as expirienced to simply click and try on a server.

I've attached some screenshots for you to show the issue, maybe someone has an idea or something which points me into the right direction. If you have questions, please ask them for a novize, as this is really my first installation with intelligent provisioning and nobody in the company can assist me on this.

Hi,

next time you can skip Update because it is already Updated.

But I think, the problem is, that you put the .iso to the Stick.

Extract the ISO to the USB, if you put the Stick in the Server, as shown here:

Hi,

that was a step forward yes, but I've left de updates active (it showed one as not updated so I left it active) and now I got the issue, that it hangs during self update. I can't remember what it wanted to update, but after a restart Intelligent Provisioning shows only the option SELF UPDATE and I get this after it has startet the self update:

I can't do anything more now, I have to boot the server and can only select again SELF UPDATE in the intelligent provisioning.

So I can't even now get to trying to install something *sad*

Hi Joel,

in that case, I would try a different Way.

Use RUFUS https://rufus.ie/ to generate a Bootable USB Stick with the Windows 2019 ISO Image.

If Windows Setup did not find the Disk (Controller) during Setup, Download and Extract this:

Software Details - HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID Driver for Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019 | HPE Support

Software Details - HPE Smart Array Gen10 and Gen10Plus Controller Driver for Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2022 | HPE Support

Put the extracted on a USB Stick and use "add Driver" during Setup.

Finally, if Windows is Installed, apply Service Pack for ProLiant.

thanks for keeping assisting me. Well I've tried it the way you mentioned, but when the setup is trying to copy the files during the installation, it immidiately shows the error:

The Computer couldn't be prepared for the start of the next installationphase. Start the installation again to install Windows.

I didn't had to use the driver provided by you, the SDD/HDD were shown directly as you see here:

The highlighted one, is the one I want to use for the installation as it is the 240GB SSD (as remember I have 2x240GB SSD and 2x1TB HDD both in RAID1)

I guess the offline drives are cause of the RAID 1?!

I've a feeling that I've screwed it up..

I would remove the HDD, start Windows Installation only with the 2x SSD and add HDD after Installation.

I tried it, shutdown server, removed the HDD, started installation, startet with F11 boot menu, result is still the same error message.

The SDD is connected to what Raid Controller?

Is the SDD Volume now the First and only and marked as Boot Volume?

Rather than setting the BIOS Boot Controller Order, the configuration must be made under the Smart Array HII setup. Select the desired boot controller, then select the option to "Set Bootable Device(s) for Legacy Boot Mode" in the menu. From there, choose "Select Bootable Logical Drive" and select the boot volume. Go back up a menu level, and choose "Number of OS bootable drives." This should be set to 1 on the boot controller. On all other controllers that are not desired to be booted from, this should be set to 0.

Did you try to delete all other Partitions?

In the Setup Format Disk Menu use:

Shift + F10 for CLI

Type DISKPART
Type LIST DISK and identify the hard disk number (from 0 to n disks)
Type SELECT DISK <n> where <n> is the SSD disk number
Type CLEAN
Type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
Type ACTIVE
Type FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
Type ASSIGN
Type EXIT twice (once to get out of DiskPart, the other to exit the command line tool)

Hey Cali,

Diskpart did the trick, I was able to install Win 2019 Server finally. Intelligent prov, is stll stuck in the SELF UPDATE but at least I could get the server running.
