Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. I don't think the Smart Storage Controller Driver and firmware are on the latest revision. I'll check on it. Also, I been running this setup for 6 months, the issue came past 1 - 2 months ago, there was no hardware/software changes.

Hi, I have an issue where I got around 100000ms Disk Response Time on my Z drive. It's a Logical Drive, contains 900GB 10k SAS Disk x 6 with Raid 5 setting. However, I did not plug the cache battery into the Smart Array Card because the battery was degraded. Might that be the issue? Any help provided either on the software/hardware side will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

The cache battery is used for storing data during an abrupt power outage to prevent data loss.

The controller cache ratio setting determines the amount of memory allocated to read and write operations.

You can change the ratio only if the controller has a battery-backed cache (because only battery-backed cache can be used for write cache) and if there are logical drives configured on the controller.

Different types of applications have different optimum settings.

You may install a known working cache battery and then proceed to modify the controller cache ratio.

Before performing any activity, ensure that you have a valid backup of server data.

Regards,

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply. Will adding a working cache battery to my server solves the high disk response time issue? It's gotten worst recently. Also, I have Virtual Machines running inside my server for education purposes. Might that be the cause too? Any assistance will be appreciated.

Greetings!

Apart from the suggesstion shared by TVVJ regarding the cache read/write settings.

Ensure that the Smart Storage controller driver and firmware are on latest revision.

And drives are on latest firmware revision, with no I/O errors on them.

Also want to know if this setup was earlier working fine? If yes, was there any hardware/software changes made before the issue started?
