DL380 Gen 10 SPP on ESXI

Hi,

OK, maybe my earlier question was convoluted. Let me try it this way:

My server is a DL380 Gen10, running VMware ESXi, 7.0.3, 19482537.

I'd like to install SPP 2022.09.01.00, get my server to version 2.78, and update all the firmware.

Do I use this file P52581_001_gen10spp-2022.09.01.00-SPP2022090100.2022_0930.1?

Do I follow the Linux directions from the read-me?

If not, where do I find esxi-specific instructions?

Should I use the ESXI Custom Image from vmware.com, VMware-ESXi-7.0.3-20842708-HPE-703.0.0.11.1.0.25-Dec2022, update my esxi to 7.0.3, 20842708? I don't know if it contains new firmware, drivers, etc.

If I should install them seperately (run the HP updates and also run the VMware updates), which should I do first?

Thanks for the links.

The first refers to esxi 6 and I'm on 7.0U3.

The second pointed me to "Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2022.09.01.00 Release Notes" but I'm not sure what to do from here.

Is it as simple as copying the P52581_001_gen10spp-2022.09.01.00-SPP2022090100.2022_0930.1.iso image to a flash drive, boot from it, and follow the prompts?

I'm just terrified at the possiblity of wiping out my system because I'm having such a hard time following the instructions.

Hello there, what I usually do is this:

Once the Node is in maintenance mode I completely remove it from the cluster, and either update it or reinstall it using HPE's ESXi image which comes with the drivers and everything. Once finished that, I launch SPP's SUM on any windows computer/server on the same network.

Once in the SUM web interface, you just need to add the iLO of he recently upgraded server. The SUM process will analyze not only the firmware but also the drivers. This is possible by the iLO 5 API integrations with the OS.

Once the SUM analysis is complete, it'll let you know the updates required. And you just need to let it run.

Sometimes the new drivers needs to be manually applied on the ESXi through CLI. If that's the case, you just need to SSH to the ESXi and run a couple of commands:

sut -status

sut -deployreboot

Once the drivers are applied, the server will reboot and then it'll be ready to be added again to the cluster.

I know it sounds kind messy, but it actually is quite simple and secure.
