Hello,
My server has 2x240gb sata SSD-s currently configured in RAID1. Lets call that Array A, which contains one logical drive where the OS is installed.
Now, those SSD-s are near their end of life, so i bought two new SSD-s, but the new ones are 480GB. Installed them while the server was running and they are recognized both by the OS and by the HPE Smart Storage Administrator
My goal is to migrate and extend the array A to the to-be-created array B.
Can anyone help with the steps?
Do I first create a new array, then somehow mirror the old one to the new one? Is different capacity a problem here?
Or do I add the new drives to the existing array, let the rebuild process finish and then remove the old drives from the array?

Hi,

I go always a different way.

Replace Disk 1 with the new (bigger) Drive
Wait for rebuild
Replace Disk 2 with the new (bigger) Drive
Wait for rebuild
Optional: Extend the Array and Volume

Hello,
We would not Recommend this .

however We would recommend to :

1. Take a valid Back-up.
2. Delete existing Array.
3. Add drives
4. Create Array again.
5. restore from back up.

I wasn't quite sure if i go this way will it allow me to rebuiold on the larger drive, without loosing additional space.

Is it possible to maybe create a new array and then move logical drive to new array? I saw that option in the SSA.

Backup is always a must-have.

This is from the "HPE Smart Array Controllers for HPE ProLiant Servers User Guide":

This is the Easy Way and completely Online.
For me, this is a lower Risk, as destroying all Data and hopefully, Restores works.
Have done this Way many times in the last 20 Years on Customer Sites, Smart Array Controller is so Smart.
