I have over 30 DL380/360 Gen 10 servers scattered over the USA and Canada serving as VMWare VSAN hosts. All have 2 sockets

I need to disable a CPU in each via Oneview or BIOS because of VMWare licensing changes. I am not talking about disabling cores.

Physically removing the CPU is imparctical because of how they are spread out and the limited technical skills at the remote locations.

Is what I need to do possible?

Thanks.

Disabling a CPU in each server via OneView or BIOS is not possible. The BIOS settings allow you to disable cores, but not the entire CPU. The only way to disable a CPU is to physically remove it from the system, which you've mentioned is impractical. Fun times!

And if you think about removing the second CPU, that will probably cause other problems too.

Then you lose half of the memory slots and some PCIe slots, for example.

Cali

Hello,

The UEFI System Utilities processor options for Gen10 servers indicate that only cores can be disabled, but not the entire processor itself. If it must be disabled, then the only way is to uninstall it, No UEFI settings provide this capability.

Regards,
