Good Day All,

I am having issues with a RAID card that required updated firmware as the first step of troubleshooting. Support sent me a link to the updated firmware that would install from ILO. I have always used SPP to update firmware and have never done it that way before so I asked "how does that work with VMWare running"? They were unable to give me an answer. That's fine, it's not their speciality, which is why I'm posting this to ask about it. Thankfully the firmware update was included in a recent SPP so I was able to install it that way.

My question is, How do you update firmware for a system component via ILO if VMWare is running on the server? Won't it crash VMWare when it forces a reboot?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi,

upload the firmware file to iLO using the firmware update section there.

It will install the new Firmware Online in a "second Part" of the Controller.
Then reboot any time you want to activate the new Controller Firmware, it will switch over/active during the reboot.

Cali

Hello,

The firmware update through iLO generally does not forces the server to reboot, unless during the process such an option is selected, if there were one displayed while performing the procedure.

Regards,
