    <description>&lt;P&gt;We have an HPE Proliant LD380 gen9 4 LFF, this server contains a RAID 1 with the Bay 1 and Bay 2 with a 3TB WDC RED NAS disk each one.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Controller P440ar with battery&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The server was underperforming, so we check it, and found out the disk 1 was degraded predictive failure and the smart battery storage says "failed"&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;We shutdown the server and insert a 3TB WDC RED NAS disk in the Bay 3 and start it up, the disk show up and apparently is on good state, we re-array, taking out the "predictive failure" disk and inserting the new one in the re-array menu.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;After a couple of seconds it says that the Bay 3 disk is failed and started the Transforming.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;After the Transforming it still says the disk it's falied.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;We bought a new disk 4TB WDC RED NAS, and we tried today. We installed in the 4th Bay. At the start everything was perfect, it recognized the disk. We started the "Heal Array", but at the end it says that the drive is "Failed Disk". After transforming it says "&lt;SPAN class=""&gt;Degraded&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;(Interim recovery)&lt;/SPAN&gt;".&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;What do we do now?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Yes it will work, as long as you do a firmware update of the drive.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;It will also work without the update but could produce unpredictable problems like the one you described.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Another view to the problem.... did you also check the disk backplane for dust or bad contacts? A "old" Gen9 server has accumulated many operating hours and possibly a certain amount of dust. When you replace a disk, it's possible that this dust gets into the connectors and cause contact problems. Compressed air and some contact cleaner spray may solve the problem.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Did you use brand new disks as replacement? Or previously used or refurbished drives? It's always possible that a whole batch of drives is bad. As in the previous answer, you should use genuine HPE drives in this special case. We also experienced some strange incompatibilities with non-HP drives, especially SSDs.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
