      <title>Proliant 5000 memory upgrade troubles</title>

      <description>I am trying to upgrade the memory on my Proliant 5000 server and it is not co-operating. Whenever I add memory to the current 512M that is installed (228470-001 kit) I get a "207 - Invalid Memory Configuration" error on POST. I have tried several different memory combinations, but none seem to be working when used in conjunction with the current kit that is installed. All the memory that I am adding has been tested individually and is known to work, and is all original Compaq RAM. Or perhaps point me to a list of valid memory configurations for this machine? I'd like to take this server to at least 1G of memory, but don't want to shell out for another memory kit only to find out it won't work in it either.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;System = Proliant 5000, 4x 200/512, BIOS E16(04/30/1999), 512M EDO</description>

      <description>SCU cannot be accessed when the 207 error happens as the system goes into a halted state. Exact error message on boot would be....&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;    1048576 KB Detected&lt;BR /&gt;    &lt;BR /&gt;    Compaq System BIOS - E16 (04/30/1999)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;    207 - Invalid Memory Configuration - Check DIMM Installation&lt;BR /&gt;    System Halted&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;And the system refuses to take any input after that point.</description>

      <description>Thanks Mario.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I had looked through the service manual previously and saw the example configurations. I was hoping someone could point me to a full listing of valid configurations so that I could be certain any memory I purchase would be usable. I have been through all possible combinations of all the DIMMs I currently have on hand, and it looks like the best combination I can use presently is Test #4 above. Since the service manual lists 1536M (512M + 512M + 256M + 256M) as a valid combination, I'll take a chance and purchase another 228470-001 kit (512M) and shoot for that combination. I'm sure I can always unload the left over DIMMs on eBay.</description>
