If you have a serious system, you have the wrong Hardware. ML 370 is only a work group server. If you have a serious system, you have the wrong OS, DOS is not for serious systems.
If you use OS/2, use IBM Server. But better do not.

Does the beginning of the rebuild process (RAID5 or RAID1 configured with the integrated smart array controller) depend on the OS installed & started ?
The fact is when OS is started (NT4 or Novell5) the rebuild process starts immediately after replacin' the disk. But in the DOS mode or when OS/2 is being used the rebuild begins only after reboot and it's not acceptible for serious systems.
Any comments?

I appreciate your opinion 'bout the proper choise of Hardware but the first question remains unanswered. Is it the feature of Integrated smart array functionality or there's smth wrong with firmware, driver, etc.? 'Cause all other models of Array controllers start to perform the rebuild in all conditions. And it has never depended on the OS started. Probably it's already fixed somewhere.

The rebuild of a replacement drive (if this what you mean) is initiated by the Array Controller and should run under the OS .

If rebuilding an entire Raid setup , you must first configure the drives with the Array configuration Utility , then install your OS .
