Hi John,

We have the very same problem, even down to the flashing led. Did you ever get it resolved.

Regards Andy Derrick

We have just pulled a DL580 out of storage and we are attempting to boot it up. What is happening is the server starts to power up for 3-6 seconds then shutsdown and recycles power automatically. Thinking this was an interlock problem all the components have been removed and reseated with no success. The only apparent indication of a failure is the momentary flash of a red led on the mainboard just as the server starts to cycle power. The led identifier is cr527. Any suggestions as to which component is failing?

Regards

John Higgins

Hello John,
What is the configuration of your Server?? Do you have third party components in the server at all?? Have you tried brining the server to minimum configuration and then try to power it back on. Any beeps upon boot?? Please post the Serial No of your server as well.

Regards,

Hi John:

If server comes up and shuts down, most likely cause is Thermal issues or bad fan or processors.

- Make sure all fans are spining; even the drive cage fans

- check to make sure that power supply leds are not flashing every 20 seconds.

- On that server the most likely cause is Power backplane. Try to replace the power backplane or reseate it and also minimize server; no pci cards not even array controller; to see if server will stay up.

There is 4 fans on top of the server these are the I/O and processors fans; they are the redundant and non redundant fans also. ; and there is 3 fans behind the scsi backplane or drive cage.

If you are getting video that means that processors and memory are okay. Most likely cause is FAN and POWER.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Tarek.
We have just replaced the PSU backplane and still the same symptoms - we do not have an exhaustive number of spares to try. Any ideas - we have tried both PSU but they both have two green solid lights and look ok. The symptoms occured on the reboot after running smartstart to configure the array. The flashing red led on the motherboard (cr527) must mean something??

Any help gratefully received

Andy

we have more 580s than SIM can count (even on a good day)

sounds like a bad mobo or I/O card. ps, which gen of 580? G1 I presume. its time to start swapping parts before you plunk another nickel into this box.

-one trick i have learned is to remove all memory, then power up. see if it beeps that there is no memory.

-the 580 has no "interlocks"

hope this helps, and hope you have another 580 to swap parts with for an hour. start with the I/O board. its the easiest.
