/PAE support for ML370 G2 dual P III cpu...?

going to install windows 2000 advanced server.
did anyone try/know if supported the /pae switch on this machine?

local representative did not see any mention of support for this architure on this machine.. so assumes it doesn't..

Windows 2000 Advanced Server Reports Only 4 GB Memory Installed

DESCRIPTION
Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server reports only 4 GB of memory installed on the system after additional memory is installed.

This is a known Microsoft issue and is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q268363:

SCOPE
This issue is not specific to HP products. It may occur on any computer operating in a Microsoft Windows Advanced Server environment and having more than 4 GB of memory installed.

RESOLUTION
Windows 2000 Advanced Server will report up to 8 GB of memory installed if the Intel Physical Addressing Extension (PAE) is enabled. Perform the following steps to enable PAE (from Microsoft Article Q268363):

Click Start > Run.

Type X:\boot.ini, where X is the drive letter of the location of the boot files (Ntldr, Boot.ini and so forth).

Modify the line that corresponds to your operating system by appending the switch /PAE.

Save the file, and then restart the computer.

The system will now report more than 4 GB of memory.

AFAIK not an issue on ML370G2 - will try to check more tomorrow

first thank's for your reply.

i saw the documents and also a few others...but on other resources i saw that the chipset must support the PAE switch.

on newer version of the mlxx series they specifically mention the support for PAE.

i wondered if i can find some reference from compaq/hp about it..

Update

last night the machine was installed..

after adding more than 4 GB with the /pae switch the win2k advanced server saw it all.

there is no reference so far from compaq literature that i could find..

i guess the switch is supported on this model but from some reason compaw did not mention it when releasing the specs..

if the machine will give problems and behave odd i will remove the /PAE and see..
