Snap! I have the exact same symptoms.

I am using 3 x 18GBs. Internal built in RAID controller. Internal Hot-plug cage. My slot 3 has repeatedly failed. Only slot 3. And if you remove and re-plug the "faulty" drive, it goes green and is happy for few days!
Brand new system brand new drives. Replaced the disk first time it failed. Failed a few days latter, removed & refitted came good then went bad a few day latter.

Just lost the server today "Blue Screen Of Death". Stop 0x00000077 error.
According to TECHNET Q228753 : 0xC0000185 sub code = improper termination or defective cabling.
I also had exchange server 2000 become corrupted for "no reason". I now suspect the drive system corrupted exchange, after the error codes from my recent Blue screen of Death.

I think there may be a hardware fault - bad cage or bad cable. I guess it may only occur under load so it could be a termination issue also. I am ordering a new cage and cable and will replace both next week. The system is now live so testing is more difficult.
The good news is you are not alone, bad news is, from my experience, things are likely to get worse.

I'm using the embedded array controller using raid 5 on four 18GB HDs. One of the drives reported "imminent HD failure", so I replaced the drive. After the controller finished rebuilding the raid drive, and a reboot, the new drive now says "imminent HD failure". I then replaced that drive with yet another drive and got the same message. Is there something wrong with my raid controller? These are all brand new drives and a brand new server.

if you replaced all drives in the same slot and the error persist it maybe a bad slot in that drive cage, you can also run adu to see if drives are acutually bad which I doubt. There is no current firmware upgrade for the embedded controller as yet.

My DL380 keeps having a problem with drives located in slot 3 as well. I'm running SCO Unix on it, so we can assume that its not OS related. I lost a day's worth of data as when I replaced the bad drive in a raid 1+0 configuration the entire array was corrupted.

Compaq - Is there a known problem or pattern with the DL380's drive cage?

Not a problem with the drive cage , update the firmware on the Integrated Smart Array .

Options ROMPaq For Array Controllers
