Hi Romano

I am not an expert on linux. But since we are installing linux, try to install using manuual process and provide the frontroller driver from following section ( Software - Driver Diskettes ) as listed in following link
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/101_1341.html#17
This link contains the drive for RH ES 3.0 for Smart Array.

If in case still you fail to provide the drive and not able to install. Plese revert back with the Kernal Version.

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/20421.html
And this page contains the information for installation and download informaiton also.

Do revert back in case of further clarification

Regards,
Prashant S.

I'm trying to install a Red Hat Linux Enterprise ES 3.0 server system on a ML 370 G2 server.
System is equipped by SmartStart 5.2 which does not support Linux.
Everything seems to go well during installation procedure but rebooting I get the message "missing operating system".
The problem may be in connection with the presence of a 5300 Smart array controller.
During Linux installation the system recocognizes this controller but on reboot it seems it can't.
I also tryed to use a higher SmartStart version (6.4) but something else is wrong in connection with the BIOS (I can't select the right Linux version in the Bios)

To be clear, in the ROM-Based Setup Utility there only is a single entry, 'Linux' because all Linux kernels require the same settings.

SmartStart does not offer assisted setup for Linux, so you really can't go any further than basic parameters, or possibly use its firmware update capability to update your system.

I recommend you get the RedHat 3.0 Installation HowTo by going to http://www.hp.com/linux --> Products --> ProLiant Servers --> Information Library

Also, please note that the earliest version of the ProLiant Support Pack to support RHEL3 is 7.0 which you can get here:

http://h18013.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html

Thank you David.
I tried SmartStart with Win NT and it's very comfortable! Do you think I could get the same comfort using SmartStart 7.0 with Red Hat Linux?
In order to update BIOS I have downloaded the SP25892.exe file from HP site but launching it I can't create the installation diskette. I tried on several different computers but the result is the same: Error accessing diskette drive.

Thank you in advance and kind regards

Romano
