I have seven Compaq KVMs in our datacenter. Two of these KVMs are causing Windows servers to stop responding(ICMP) and cannot be accessed by the KVM. When I reset(Power Cycle) the KMV, the servers restart. This does not affect the Netware servers attached to the KVM. KVM is 2 X 8 and does not have a visible model number. All KVMs have mixed Netware and MS servers attached. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have seen this before also. What may help is to see if you can upgrade the KVM firmware (I'm not sure if all of them can do this).

Go to the HP support site at http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and enter the model number of your KVM, then look for firmware updates (under Download Drivers and Software).

If this doesn't work, you might have to look into new KVM switches.

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Jody,

Can you get into the KVM screen to display the version information.

Prt-Scr and then choose Commands - Version and pass on the information displayed please, particularly the S, H and F values as well as the Keyboard and mouse settings.

The latest firmware for the KVM (Server Console Switch model) is 2.1.1 however if you can provide the details we'll know if you need and upgrade or not.

Check all your existing KVM's using this procedure and verify if there are any significant differences between the working KVM's and the two rogue ones.

Regards,

Brian

I failed to write in the earlier posts that I have upgraded firmware on both KVMs. When I attach a Windows box back to the KVM, it makes a high pitched noise. Sounds like the noise is coming from the server.
